Comic Books need a shake up

I love comic books but the publishers sometimes do some weird stuff that comes across as trying to be daring in the safest way possible. Killing off Peter Parker has me a bit geeked out.

ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN 1 MILES VARIANT

What's the point? If they keep using the same villains and the same moral dilemmas and the same burden of responsibility that comes with great power, why knock him off at all?

If they wanna get all edgy that's cool. But if they need to introduce a new character, make him stand on his own two feet rather than ride on the coat tails of one of their most popular characters. The real fuck up, of course, is that the thin that makes Spider-Man interesting is Peter Parker, not the other way around, so they've essentially gotta start from scratch with this new guy Miles anyway, except now they've limited their options by making him the new Spider-Man. Seems like a bit of a fail.

You don't care about this though. Why are you still reading? I'll bet you were hoping for some joke about the multi-racial angle. Shame on you.

Shame.
